 e of his short career he formed 10 orchestras and disbanding most of the
 m after only a few months. At the peak of his career in the years just b
 efore World War II\, Shaw was matched by few other musicians in populari
 ty and technical skill.\n \nSAL ANDOLINA BIO\n\nIn the worlds of classic
 al music and jazz\, crossover versatility is rarely found in a single in
 dividual. Over the past decade\, however\, the Buffalo Philharmonic Orch
 estra has witnessed the keen achievements of one of Buffalo's native son
 s in the person of Salvatore Andolina\, who is now the BPO's hottest swi
 tch-hitter in his permanent position of clarenitist\, bass clarinetist a
 nd saxophonist.\n \nWhile Andolina has been a full-time member of the BP
 O for the past dozen seasons\, his association with the Orchestra began 
 in the late '70s when he was a standout performance major at the Univers
 ity at Buffalo as a full-scholarship student on the clarinet. Upon compl
 etion of his degree at UB under former BPO clarinetist James Pyne\, Ando
 lina pursued advanced clarinet studies with Stanley Hasty at the Eastman
  School of Music in Rochester and coaching with the legendary Benny Good
 man in New York City.\n \nIn addition to appearing as a soloist with the
  BPO\, Andolina has been featured with the Rochester Philharmonic\, the 
 Grand Rapids Symphony\, the Fresno Philharmonic\, the Arts Nova Chamber

 mistry major named Steve Perry posed a question to fellow musician frien
 ds: what if a punk rock rhythm section shared a practice space with jazz
 -schooled horn players and an equally trained keyboardist? The beaker-bu
 sting result made a stellar EP\, sold out local clubs and soon drew comp
 arisons to contemporaries like Fishbone\, Faith No More and Bad Brains. 
 It also irritated the local PC police. When the moniker hit the streets 
 of \"liberal\" Eugene\, OR\, an angry group hired a lawyer who proceeded
  to hamstring any hope of a case by physically removing the band's flier
 s - a practice known as censorship (apparently in violation of an obscur
 e constitutional provision). Not ones to count their blessings\, the Dad
 dies then employed a kinetic sculpture of an ejaculating male member - a
 ffectionately called the \"Dildorado\" - as a stage prop.\n \nMusically\
 , they were equally out of step with a regional scene that mssrs. Cobain
  and Vedder and Roger Nusic had come to define. But even relegated to \"
 ska\" bills\, the Daddies distinguished themselves by incorporating big 
 band swing into their eclectic mix (one fan likened the band to a David 
 Johansen backing group that could play new York Dolls and Buster Poindex
 ter tunes).\n \nThe tenacity these lines imply carried the band through

 rock radio was stretching its format to include sounds about as disparat
 e from Nirvana as one can imagine. Some lamented the change\, some prais
 ed it\; either way\, these musicians from Eugene\, OR found themselves s
 trolling through the intersection of Cobain Street and Timberlake Avenue
  when America decided to turn. Eventually ZSR would sell two million cop
 ies\, which raised expectations considerably for the follow-up. So Perry
  and Co. recruited notables like glam legend Tony Visconti and the late 
 free jazz icon Dewey Redmond (the sublime tenor solo from \"The Saddest 
 Thing I Know\") for Soul Caddy\, which found them resuming their traditi
 on of eclecticism and experimentation in the studio.\nThe fact that a T.
 Rex-inspired single called \"Diamond Light Boogie\" failed to reach the 
 chart heights of \"Riot\" surprised no one\, especially since radio was 
 now under the spell of a certain boy band the Daddies had shared an Okla
 homa City stage with the previous year: 'N Sync.\n \nFollowing the Soul 
 Caddy tour\, Perry re-enrolled at the U. of O. and completed a molecular
  biology degree\, while the band laid low and convened for the occasiona
 l show. But by 2006\, rotation of \"Zoot Suit Riot\" on shows like \"So 
 You Think You Can Dance\" had sparked new interest in the band\, and all
  began contemplating new directions for what is still a vital musical ex
 periment.\n \nNow in their 19th year\, the Cherry Poppin' Daddies are po

 surgence in the mid to late 90s and is going strong across the US and do
 zens of other coutries.  Swing dances featuring lindy are a very social 
 event.  Everyone dances with everyone\, though it's not typicslly a dati
 ng venue.  Swing is a lifestyle based on the pure joy of dance: focussed
  on fun.  So bring your spirits and prepare to smile!  Beginners are not
